- Use R719 for definitive surgical fusion of the ankle joint when addressing end-stage post-traumatic or degenerative arthritis.
- Select R719 when the procedure involves formal arthrodesis, distinguishing it from simple debridement or arthroscopic procedures that may fall under different surgical categories.
Common Pitfalls
- Attempting to bill R719 alongside R475 (Ankle arthroscopy) for the same side on the same day will result in an automatic rejection.
- Billing R719 in conjunction with R695 (Ankle reconstruction) is prohibited; ensure you are not unbundling these procedures, as they are mutually exclusive for the same side.
Billing Tips
- Since R719 includes neurovascular exploration and tenolysis, do not attempt to bill these components separately as they are considered integral to the primary procedure.
