When to Use
- Use R777 for definitive surgical fusion of the radiocarpal or intercarpal joints to address advanced degenerative arthritis or post-traumatic instability.
- Select R777 when performing a partial arthrodesis, such as a scaphocapitate or four-corner fusion, as the code encompasses both total and partial procedures.
Common Pitfalls
- Attempting to bill R777 alongside R285, R286, R316, R317, or R418 will result in an automatic rejection as these procedures are mutually exclusive.
- Billing for a separate wrist denervation procedure is a common error, as the Schedule of Benefits explicitly includes denervation within the R777 fee.
