When to Use
- Use R806 for the primary surgical repair of a renal artery, such as in cases of renal artery stenosis or complex revascularization.
- Use R806 when performing arterial reconstruction in conjunction with the removal of an infected aortic graft (R858 or R859), as these are distinct and billable procedures.
Common Pitfalls
- Attempting to bill a second surgical assistant without prior authorization; R806 is not on the pre-approved list, requiring a formal letter of justification to the Ministry.
- Failing to document the Injury Severity Score (ISS) when attempting to claim the E420 trauma premium, which leads to automatic rejection.
- Confusing R806 with R805; ensure the surgical approach and procedure description match the specific anatomical repair performed.
Billing Tips
- Always verify the start time of the procedure to correctly apply after-hours premiums (E409, E410) or special visit premiums (C998B, C999B) for the assistant and anaesthetist.
- When performing multiple procedures, ensure that R806 is clearly identified as the primary service to avoid incorrect application of surgical payment rules.
