S124
S124 – Vagotomy - highly selective
OHIP Urology Code — DIGESTIVE SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Highly selective vagotomy performed as the sole procedure, without an accompanying pyloroplasty or gastroenterostomy, as listed in the Digestive System Surgical Procedures section of the Schedule of Benefits ().
When to Use
- Use S124 when performing a highly selective vagotomy as an isolated procedure for refractory peptic ulcer disease.
- Use this code when the surgical intent is strictly the denervation of the parietal cell mass without any concurrent gastric drainage procedure.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing S124 concurrently with S133, S134, or S137 will result in an automatic rejection as these codes represent drainage procedures explicitly excluded by the Schedule.
- Attempting to bill S124 when a pyloroplasty or gastroenterostomy is performed during the same operative session is a common audit trigger for improper unbundling.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the operative report explicitly states that no drainage procedure was performed to justify the use of S124 over more complex gastric surgery codes.
