S207 – Appendectomy
OHIP Urology Code — DIGESTIVE SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
S207 is a surgical procedure for the removal of the vermiform appendix. It is claimed for an appendectomy regardless of whether the appendix is intact or ruptured. The fee for the surgeon (suffix A) is a flat fee that includes the pre-operative and post-operative care associated with the procedure. Fees for an assistant (suffix B) or anaesthetist (suffix C) are calculated based on units.
When to Use
- Use S207 for both laparoscopic and open appendectomies, as the code does not differentiate by surgical approach.
- Claim S207 for appendectomies performed during the course of another procedure, provided the appendectomy is medically indicated and not incidental.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill S207 with S204 (laparotomy) as the appendectomy fee is considered inclusive of the abdominal entry.
- Avoid billing S207 alongside S313 or S314, as these are restricted codes that represent redundant or overlapping surgical services.
Billing Tips
- Ensure you append the appropriate after-hours premium (e.g., C999C) if the procedure is performed during non-standard hours, as S207 is eligible for these premiums.
