S210TaTME with proctosigmoidectomy and anastomosis below peritoneal reflection - one surgeon technique

OHIP Urology Code · Schedule of Benefits

Transanal Total Mesorectal Excision (TaTME) with proctosigmoidectomy and anastomosis below peritoneal reflection - one surgeon technique.

When to Use

  • Use S210 when performing a complete TaTME proctosigmoidectomy with anastomosis below the peritoneal reflection as a single-surgeon procedure.
  • Use S210 instead of S213 when the specific transanal approach (TaTME) is utilized, as S213 is reserved for standard anterior resection or proctosigmoidectomy techniques.

Common Pitfalls

  • Billing S210 when two surgeons are involved in the procedure; you must use S211 and S212 for a two-surgeon team approach.
  • Attempting to claim the morbid obesity premium (E676) with S210, which is currently not eligible under the Surgical Preamble.
  • Failing to document the specific TaTME technique and the anastomosis location below the peritoneal reflection, which are mandatory for audit compliance.

Billing Tips

  • If the procedure requires conversion to an open laparotomy, ensure you bill E860 in addition to S210 to capture the diagnostic laparoscopic component.
  • If the procedure is performed after hours, apply the appropriate E409 or E410 premium to the S210 fee to maximize reimbursement.
Provider Fee$2,448.75
Surgical Assistant Fee$103.28
