S747
S747 – Para ovarian cystectomy
OHIP Urology Code — FEMALE GENITAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Para ovarian cystectomy is the surgical excision of a para-ovarian cyst. As per the note on page (), this fee code includes payment for unilateral or bilateral services. This is a surgical procedure with specific base units for anaesthesia and surgical assistance.
When to Use
- Use S747 for the surgical excision of a para-ovarian cyst when the procedure is limited to the cyst itself.
- Select S747 when the pathology is strictly para-ovarian, distinguishing it from an oophorectomy (S745) or salpingo-oophorectomy (S746).
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill S747 as a bilateral procedure; the fee is inclusive of both unilateral and bilateral services, and additional claims for the second side will be rejected.
- Avoid billing S747 in conjunction with other ovarian procedures unless the clinical documentation clearly supports distinct, separate surgical sites that are not considered part of the same operative field.
- Do not attempt to bill for a second surgical assistant without prior authorization, as S747 is not on the pre-approved list for secondary assistance.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the operative report explicitly describes the cyst as 'para-ovarian' to avoid confusion with ovarian cystectomy codes, which may carry different clinical implications.
- If performing this procedure on an emergency basis after hours, ensure the claim includes the appropriate E409 or E410 premium to maximize the procedural fee.
