S754 – Diagnostic curettage
OHIP Urology Code — FEMALE GENITAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
S754 represents a Diagnostic curettage. As per the listing, this procedure is payable with or without the concurrent performance of: - cauterization - biopsy of cervix - removal of polyps - hysterosalpingography When any of these additional services are rendered, they are considered included in the fee for S754 and are not billed separately.
When to Use
- Use S754 when performing a diagnostic curettage for abnormal uterine bleeding or suspected endometrial pathology, regardless of whether a cervical biopsy or polyp removal is performed concurrently.
- Use S754 for diagnostic curettage procedures that include a hysterosalpingography, as the imaging is considered bundled into the surgical fee.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill S754 in addition to cervical biopsy or polyp removal codes, as these are explicitly included in the S754 fee and will result in a claim rejection for duplicate billing.
- Avoid billing S754 for therapeutic procedures or more extensive surgeries; it is strictly intended for diagnostic curettage and does not cover procedures like D&C for incomplete abortion or other non-diagnostic indications.
Billing Tips
- If an assistant is required for the procedure, submit M400B with 6 base units and include a letter of medical necessity to the Ministry to justify the assistance, as assistant units are not pre-defined for S754.
