This service is a double-contrast radiological study covering the oesophagus, stomach, duodenum, and small bowel. It includes a survey film if taken. Payment is divided into a technical component (H fee) and a professional component (P fee). As per the rules on page , the technical component is generally not payable for hospital in-patients or for patients admitted to hospital within 24 hours of the service.
When to Use
- Use X103 when performing a comprehensive double-contrast study that includes the oesophagus, stomach, duodenum, and small bowel in a single session.
- Select X103 over X107 when the clinical requirement necessitates imaging beyond the oesophagus to include the stomach, duodenum, and small bowel.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing X103 in conjunction with X107 is strictly prohibited as the latter is considered a component of the broader study.
- Attempting to claim the technical component (H fee) for hospital in-patients or patients admitted within 24 hours of the service will result in automatic rejection.
