X310 – Level 1 - Simple Treatment Planning
OHIP Laboratory Code — RADIATION ONCOLOGY · Schedule of Benefits
Level 1 - Simple Treatment Planning includes planning that does not meet the criteria for Level 2 (X311), Level 3 (X312), or Level 4 (X313) treatment planning. This service is claimed per patient, per course of treatment. The levels are defined by the National Hospital Productivity Improvement Project (NHPIP) Codes.
When to Use
- Use X310 for simple palliative radiation treatment planning that involves a single treatment volume and does not require complex dose distribution calculations.
- Apply this code for straightforward treatment planning where the complexity does not meet the criteria for X311, X312, or X313 as defined by the NHPIP standards.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing X310 in conjunction with X311, X312, or X313 for the same course of treatment will result in automatic rejection due to the restricted code relationship.
- Claiming X310 for complex planning scenarios that actually qualify for higher-level codes (X311-X313) constitutes an under-billing error that fails to reflect the actual resource intensity of the planning process.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the clinical documentation explicitly supports the 'simple' classification to justify why the case does not meet the complexity thresholds of X311 or higher.
