Z329 – Mediastinoscopy

Mediastinoscopy is an endoscopic surgical procedure used to examine the chest wall and mediastinum.
As a procedure with a 'Z' prefix, it is an Independent Operative Procedure (IOP). According to the rules on page of the Schedule, if the major pre-operative visit was rendered by the same physician within the 12 months prior to the Z329, only a minor assessment (if rendered by a General and Family Physician) or a partial assessment (if rendered by a specialist) is eligible for payment on the same day prior to the IOP service. When the major preoperative assessment is rendered on the same day as the IOP, no other consultation or assessment is eligible for payment if rendered prior to the IOP service by the same physician on the same day.
This service includes all common and specific elements for a surgical procedure as outlined in the General Preamble (-) and the Surgical Preamble ().
