Z362
Z362 – Removal of indwelling catheter
OHIP Psychiatric Code — RESPIRATORY SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Removal of a chronic indwelling pleural catheter. This service is intended for the palliative management of malignant pleural effusion.
When to Use
- Use Z362 for the definitive removal of a chronic indwelling pleural catheter (e.g., PleurX) in a patient with malignant pleural effusion.
- Use this code when the catheter is no longer required due to successful pleurodesis or the patient's transition to a different palliative care plan.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill Z362 for simple catheter adjustments or troubleshooting; these services must be claimed as a visit fee.
- Avoid billing image guidance separately, as the fee for Z362 is all-inclusive and already accounts for any necessary imaging or interpretation.
- Ensure the procedure is for a chronic indwelling pleural catheter; attempting to use this for other types of drainage tubes will result in rejection.
Billing Tips
- If the removal is performed on an urgent or after-hours basis, ensure you append the appropriate premium code (E409A or E410A) to maximize the procedural reimbursement.
