Z562Biliary duct calculus manipulation and/or removal via T-tube tract - as sole procedure

OHIP Psychiatric Code — DIGESTIVE SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits

This surgical procedure involves the manipulation and/or removal of a biliary duct calculus (stone) through a pre-existing T-tube tract. This fee is applicable only when this is the sole procedure performed during the surgical session.

When to Use

  • Use Z562 when performing a percutaneous extraction of a retained biliary stone through a mature T-tube tract in the radiology suite or clinic setting.
  • Select Z562 specifically when the procedure is the only surgical service provided during the encounter, as it is strictly a 'sole procedure' code.

Common Pitfalls

  • Billing Z562 in conjunction with any other surgical procedure code will result in an automatic rejection, as the fee is exclusive to standalone encounters.
  • Attempting to bill Z562 when the stone removal is part of a larger operative session (e.g., during a formal re-exploration) is a common audit trigger; use the appropriate operative code for the full procedure instead.

Billing Tips

  • Ensure the T-tube tract is mature before performing the procedure, as billing Z562 for an immature tract may be flagged if the clinical documentation does not support the procedural safety.
  • If the procedure requires an anaesthesiologist, ensure you are correctly appending the relevant ASA units, as Z562 is eligible for anaesthesia premiums despite being a minor surgical procedure.
Provider Fee$116.20
Anaesthetist Fee$108.43
Non-Anaesthetist Fee$108.43
