When to Use
- Use Z562 when performing a percutaneous extraction of a retained biliary stone through a mature T-tube tract in the radiology suite or clinic setting.
- Select Z562 specifically when the procedure is the only surgical service provided during the encounter, as it is strictly a 'sole procedure' code.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing Z562 in conjunction with any other surgical procedure code will result in an automatic rejection, as the fee is exclusive to standalone encounters.
- Attempting to bill Z562 when the stone removal is part of a larger operative session (e.g., during a formal re-exploration) is a common audit trigger; use the appropriate operative code for the full procedure instead.
Billing Tips
