Z634 – Multiple tumours
OHIP Psychiatric Code — UROGENITAL AND URINARY SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
This procedure involves the endoscopic excision of multiple tumours from the bladder. The service includes removal of the tumour base and adjacent muscles, as well as electrocoagulation if performed. As per the Schedule of Benefits, no additional claim for cystoscopy (e.g., Z606, Z607) is payable when performed at the same time as this procedure.
When to Use
- Use Z634 when performing an endoscopic resection of two or more distinct bladder tumours during the same operative session.
- Use this code when the procedure involves the excision of the tumour base and underlying muscle, distinguishing it from simple diagnostic biopsies.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill Z606 or Z607 in addition to Z634, as the cystoscopy is considered an integral component of the surgical procedure and is disallowed by the Schedule of Benefits.
- Avoid using Z634 for a single bladder tumour; Z633 is the appropriate code for a solitary tumour excision.
Billing Tips
- Ensure your operative report clearly documents the presence of multiple tumours to support the use of Z634 over the single-tumour code Z633.
- If the procedure is performed on a patient under 16 years of age, remember to apply the appropriate age premium percentage to the base fee of $468.70.
