Z729
Z729 – Cryoconization, electroconization or CO2 laser therapy
OHIP Psychiatric Code — FEMALE GENITAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Cryoconization, electroconization or laser therapy with or without curettage for premalignant lesion (dysplasia or carcinoma in situ), out-patient procedure.
When to Use
- Use Z729 for the outpatient treatment of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) via cryotherapy or laser ablation.
- Select Z729 when performing a diagnostic or therapeutic cone biopsy using electrocautery (LEEP/LLETZ) in an office setting.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill Z729 in addition to S744 (cervical biopsy), as the biopsy is considered an integral component of the cone procedure.
- Avoid billing Z729 for inpatient procedures, as this code is strictly designated for outpatient/office-based services.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the procedure note explicitly mentions the technique used (e.g., laser, LEEP, or cryo) to support the Z729 claim during potential audits.
- Do not attempt to add a separate fee for endocervical curettage, as the fee for Z729 is all-inclusive regardless of whether curettage is performed.
