When to Use
- Use E114 for the primary implantation of a glaucoma drainage device (e.g., Baerveldt or Ahmed valve) when a standard trabeculectomy is insufficient or contraindicated.
- Use E114 when performing a revision or secondary implantation of a drainage device in an eye that has previously failed other glaucoma filtering procedures, ensuring the E984 add-on is applied.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E114 in conjunction with E123 will result in an automatic rejection, as the division of iris to cornea is considered bundled or restricted.
- Failing to append the E984 add-on when operating on an eye with a history of prior filtering surgery results in significant under-billing of the procedure's complexity.
- Attempting to bill E114 alongside E115 (MIGS) is generally disallowed as they represent different tiers of glaucoma intervention; ensure the clinical documentation justifies the more invasive E114.
