E608 – Each additional wedge resection of lung
OHIP Surgical Assists Code — RESPIRATORY SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
E608 is an add-on fee payable for each additional wedge resection of the lung. This service is limited to a maximum of 3 per patient encounter. This fee is added to the fee for a primary lung excision procedure, typically an M prefix code as indicated on page of the Schedule.
When to Use
- Use E608 when performing multiple wedge resections during the same operative session, specifically as an add-on to a primary lung excision code like S105 or S106.
- Apply E608 for the second and third wedge resection performed on the same lung or contralateral lung during the same procedure, up to a maximum of three units.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E608 more than three times per patient encounter will result in automatic rejection as the code is strictly limited to a maximum of three units.
- Attempting to bill E608 as a standalone procedure without an associated primary lung excision code (M-prefix) will lead to claim rejection.
- Confusing E608 with E607; ensure E608 is used for additional wedge resections while E607 is reserved for specific segmentectomy or lobectomy add-ons.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the primary lung excision code is billed first, as E608 is an add-on fee that does not trigger the standard multiple procedure reduction rule.
- When performing three wedge resections, bill the primary excision code once and E608 with a quantity of two to capture the total procedure correctly.
