When to Use
- Use E703 when performing a snare polypectomy on the first polyp measuring > 1 cm during an oesophagoscopy-gastroscopy (Z399 or Z400).
- Apply this code specifically for snare techniques; do not use E703 for biopsies or forceps removals, which are included in the base procedure fee.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E703 for a polyp < 1 cm, which is considered part of the base endoscopy fee and is not separately billable.
- Claiming E703 more than once for the same patient on the same date, as this code is strictly for the first polyp; subsequent > 1 cm polyps must be billed as E799.
- Failing to link E703 to the base procedure code (Z399 or Z400) on the same claim, which may lead to rejection.
