E786 describes the resection or incision of the bladder neck in a female patient, performed endoscopically. This service is intended to be claimed in addition to a primary cystoscopy procedure, such as diagnostic cystoscopy (Z606). The procedure is performed transurethrally to address bladder neck obstruction or other related conditions.
When to Use
- Use E786 when performing a transurethral incision or resection of the bladder neck specifically to treat bladder neck obstruction in a female patient.
- This code must be claimed as an add-on to a primary cystoscopy procedure, such as Z606 (diagnostic cystoscopy) or Z607 (cystoscopy with biopsy/fulguration).
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E786 as a standalone procedure will result in an automatic rejection; it must be submitted on the same claim as the primary cystoscopy.
- Do not confuse E786 with E787, which is the equivalent procedure for male patients; E786 is strictly restricted to female patients.
