E815 – Angioplasty remote from subintimal dissection site

An angioplasty performed at a site remote from the primary subintimal dissection. This procedure is an add-on payable in conjunction with either `R878 (Subintimal dissection for recanalization of femoral/popiteal/tibial arterial occlusive disease) or R879` (Subintimal dissection for recanalization of iliac/aorta arterial occlusive disease). The fee for E815 is inclusive of the placement of any stent(s) or other device(s) that may be rendered as part of the procedure.
When to Use
- Use E815 when performing an angioplasty on a separate arterial segment that is distinct from the primary subintimal dissection site treated via R878 or R879.
- Use E815 when a stent is deployed in a remote vessel segment to address residual stenosis or flow-limiting disease encountered during the same operative session as R878 or R879.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill E815 for angioplasty or stenting performed within the same vessel segment as the primary subintimal dissection, as these are considered inclusive to the base procedure (R878 or R879).
- Avoid billing E815 as a standalone code; it is strictly an add-on and will be rejected by the Ministry if not submitted on the same claim as R878 or R879.
