When to Use
- Use E985 as an add-on when performing a tympanoplasty concurrently with a cortical mastoidectomy (E320) to address middle ear pathology.
- Apply E985 when reconstructing the tympanic membrane during a revision mastoidectomy (E315) or a modified/radical mastoidectomy (E322).
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E985 as a standalone procedure will result in an automatic rejection, as it is strictly an add-on code requiring one of the three specified mastoidectomy codes.
- Failing to link the mastoidectomy code (E315, E320, or E322) on the same claim will cause the Ministry to flag the E985 for manual review or rejection.
