G082 – Continuous venovenous haemodiafiltration - initial and acute
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Continuous venovenous haemodiafiltration - initial and acute (for the first 3 services). This is a form of continuous renal replacement therapy used for critically ill patients with acute kidney injury.
When to Use
- Use G082 for the first three sessions of continuous venovenous haemodiafiltration (CVVHDF) initiated for acute kidney injury in a critically ill patient.
- Select G082 specifically for the acute, initial phase of therapy; once the patient stabilizes or transitions beyond the initial three-service threshold, switch to G083.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G082 beyond the first three services; subsequent services must be billed under G083 to avoid automatic rejection or audit recovery.
- Failing to include the appropriate after-hours premium (E409 or E410) when the procedure commences outside of standard daytime hours, as G082 is a non-elective procedure.
- Attempting to bill G082 in conjunction with preliminary investigations or routine monitoring, which are considered inclusive of the procedural fee.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the start time of the procedure is clearly documented to support the application of E409, E410, E412, or E413 premiums, as these are highly scrutinized for non-elective procedures.
