Insertion of non-biodegradable long-acting subcutaneous medication implant
When to Use
- Use G318 specifically for the insertion of non-biodegradable implants such as Nexplanon.
- Use G318 for the insertion procedure itself, distinct from simple subcutaneous injections which must be billed under J54.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G318 for biodegradable implants like Zoladex, which are not eligible for this code and should be billed under J54.
- Attempting to claim G700 premiums with G318, which is prohibited as G318 is not an eligible code for this premium.
- Billing G318 for the removal of an implant, which must be billed using Z114 or Z115 instead.
Billing Tips
- You may bill an assessment code (e.g., A007) in addition to G318 on the same day, provided the assessment is not solely for the procedure itself.

Procedure
Nexplanon is an example of non-biodegradable long-acting subcutaneous medication implant.
Zoladex is an example of a biodegradable medication implant for which G318 is not eligible for payment.

G318 is not eligible for age-based fee premiums as it is not in Parts K to Z of the Schedule.
Removal of these implants should be billed using Z114 (local anaesthetic) or Z115 (general anaesthetic).
