G570Echocardiography - technical component

OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits

A Complete Study – 1 and 2 dimensions is an echocardiogram that must include as a minimum all of the following components: acquisition, recording and storage of ultrasound images relevant to the assessment of all components of cardiac structure and function including chambers, valves, septae, pericardium and proximal great vessels. Also included when rendered is a Cardiac Doppler Study (with or without colour Doppler).

When to Use

  • Use G570 when performing a comprehensive transthoracic echocardiogram that assesses all cardiac chambers, valves, septae, pericardium, and proximal great vessels.
  • Use G570 for a complete study that incorporates Doppler or color Doppler flow assessment alongside the 2D structural imaging.

Common Pitfalls

  • Billing G570 when only a focused or limited study is performed, which should instead be billed under G574 or G575.
  • Attempting to bill G570 in conjunction with G582 or G583, which are restricted and will result in automatic claim rejection.
  • Failing to apply the G570A modifier when performing the technical component within a hospital setting, leading to incorrect payment amounts.

Billing Tips

  • Ensure the permanent digital record includes all required structural measurements to justify the 'complete' status of the study during an audit.
  • If specific cardiac components cannot be visualized due to patient habitus or technical limitations, document the reason clearly to maintain eligibility for the full G570 fee.
