G575Focused echocardiography - professional component

OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits

G575 is the professional component of a focused echocardiography study. A focused study is defined as an examination limited to a single component of the cardiac assessment. It is not to be claimed in conjunction with a pregnancy study. Examples where a focused study may be applicable include: 1. Emergency assessment to guide immediate patient management. 2. Follow-up within 2 weeks of a complete study to re-evaluate a specific finding or question.

When to Use

  • Use G575 for an emergency bedside assessment of a single cardiac parameter, such as assessing pericardial effusion or left ventricular function, when a full G574 study is not clinically indicated.
  • Use G575 for a targeted follow-up within 14 days of a G574 complete echocardiogram to re-evaluate a specific previously identified abnormality.

Common Pitfalls

  • Claiming G575 for a comprehensive cardiac assessment that exceeds the scope of a single-component study, which should instead be billed as G574.
  • Billing G575 on the same day as a pregnancy ultrasound, as this is explicitly prohibited by the Schedule of Benefits.
  • Failing to maintain a permanent digital record of the specific images and measurements, which is a mandatory requirement for audit compliance.

Billing Tips

  • Ensure the clinical note explicitly identifies the single component being assessed to justify why a full G574 study was not performed.
