G579
G579 – Saline study
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
When to Use
- Use G579 when performing a bubble study to detect an intracardiac shunt during a transthoracic echocardiogram (G571).
- Apply this code when administering agitated saline contrast during a stress echocardiogram (G574) or transesophageal echocardiogram (G581) to improve endocardial border definition.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G579 as a standalone service will result in an automatic rejection, as it must be submitted on the same claim as G571, G574, or G581.
- Attempting to bill a separate venipuncture fee (such as G489) is prohibited because venipuncture is explicitly included in the G579 fee.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the claim includes the diagnostic echo code and G579 on the same date of service to satisfy the mandatory linkage requirement.
