When to Use
- Use J716 specifically for the professional interpretation of PET scans performed for neurological indications, such as refractory epilepsy or dementia workups.
- Select J716 when the clinical focus is strictly neurological, ensuring it is not used for oncologic (J714), cardiac (J715), or inflammatory (J717) indications.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing J716 in combination with J714, J715, or J717 on the same day will trigger an automatic rejection due to the daily limit restriction.
- Attempting to bill J716 for remote interpretations performed via PACS will result in the denial of associated travel premiums (C102-C110), as these require physical presence in the hospital.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the claim is submitted with the 'C' suffix to designate the professional component of the interpretation, as the 'B' suffix is reserved for the technical component.
