When to Use
- Use L067 when you perform an in-office biopsy or tissue excision and must prepare the specimen for transport to a laboratory for pathology analysis.
- Use this code when collecting a specimen that requires specific technical preparation, such as a skin scraping or swab, where you are providing the necessary supplies and personnel for the collection.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing L067 for specimens collected during a hospital encounter or when the patient is admitted within 24 hours, which triggers an automatic rejection under GP11 rules.
- Attempting to bill L067 alongside a surgical pathology professional component (L861-L867) without ensuring the technical procurement is distinct and documented as a separate service.
Billing Tips
