L068 – Creatinine
OHIP Dermatology Code · Schedule of Benefits
Creatinine (Laboratory Medicine - Technical Component). This code represents the technical component of the laboratory procedure for measuring creatinine levels.
When to Use
- Use L068 only when billing for the technical component of a creatinine test performed in a private laboratory licensed under the Laboratory and Specimen Collection Centre Licensing Act.
- Use this code when the laboratory service is provided by a facility that is not the physician's own office, distinguishing it from G039 which is restricted to point-of-care drug testing scenarios.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing L068 for in-office creatinine testing is an error; G039 is the mandatory code for office-based testing and is strictly limited to urine tampering protocols.
- Submitting L068 without documented evidence of the physician's interpretation and subsequent treatment decision in the patient's permanent record will lead to audit recovery.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the laboratory facility is appropriately licensed under the Laboratory and Specimen Collection Centre Licensing Act, as L068 is not applicable to standard hospital-based or physician-owned office testing.
