L550
L550 – L550
OHIP Dermatology Code · Schedule of Benefits
When to Use
- Use L550 for the removal of a single benign lesion, such as a skin tag or small seborrheic keratosis, when no complex excision or pathology is required.
- Select L550 when performing a simple curettage or cauterization of a minor lesion that does not meet the criteria for the more extensive Z481 or Z482 surgical procedures.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing L550 in conjunction with an office visit (A007) for the same lesion is considered double-dipping and will result in a rejection or clawback.
- Submitting L550 for multiple lesions on the same day often triggers a rejection; you must use the appropriate multiple lesion modifier or code for each distinct site if applicable.
Billing Tips
- If the procedure involves a biopsy of the lesion, bill the appropriate biopsy code instead of L550, as L550 is intended for simple removal without diagnostic tissue analysis.
