N583
N583 – Kyphoplasty (balloon tamp and injection of bone cement) as sole procedure, first level
OHIP Otolaryngology Code — SPINAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Kyphoplasty (balloon tamp and injection of bone cement) as sole procedure, first level.
When to Use
- Use N583 as the primary code for the first spinal level treated via balloon tamp and bone cement injection.
- Use N583 when performing a kyphoplasty as a stand-alone procedure without concurrent spinal surgeries that would otherwise trigger the E392 code.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing other codes from the Spinal Surgical Procedures section alongside N583 will result in automatic rejection, as N583 is restricted to only E393.
- Failing to document the start and end times in the patient record will lead to claim rejection for any associated assistant or anaesthesia services.
- Attempting to claim E420 (Trauma premium) alongside after-hours premiums (E409/E410) is prohibited; choose the higher-value premium if both apply.
Billing Tips
- Always append E393 for every additional spinal level treated during the same session to ensure full compensation for multi-level procedures.
- Ensure the Injury Severity Score (ISS) is explicitly documented in the chart if claiming the E420 trauma premium to avoid audit recovery.
