S301
S301 – Local complete excision of tumour or lesion
OHIP Urology Code — DIGESTIVE SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
When to Use
- Use S301 for the definitive local excision of a benign or malignant pancreatic lesion when a formal resection (e.g., Whipple or distal pancreatectomy) is not performed.
- Select S301 when performing an enucleation of a small, well-defined pancreatic neuroendocrine tumour where the surrounding pancreatic parenchyma is preserved.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill S301 for a formal pancreatic resection; use the appropriate pancreatic resection codes (e.g., S305, S306) to avoid rejection for incorrect procedure scope.
- Failure to append E793 when the procedure is performed laparoscopically will result in an underpayment of the 25% premium.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the operative report explicitly describes the 'local' and 'complete' nature of the excision to support the use of S301 over more extensive surgical codes.
- When performing this procedure after hours, confirm the case start time meets the criteria for E409 or E410 to maximize the procedural fee.
