S350 – Image-guided transcatheter embolization for active gastrointestinal bleeding
OHIP Urology Code · Schedule of Benefits
Image-guided transcatheter embolization for active gastrointestinal bleeding performed within an interventional radiology suite.
When to Use
- Use S350 for active gastrointestinal hemorrhage requiring definitive transcatheter embolization in an interventional suite.
- Choose S350 over J023 when the procedure involves mechanical or chemical embolization rather than simple intra-arterial infusion of drugs.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing S350 alongside any diagnostic angiography or image interpretation codes will result in automatic rejection, as these are considered inclusive.
- Attempting to claim S350 with S351 is prohibited; these codes are mutually exclusive for the same patient encounter.
- Submitting for a Surgical Assistant fee or Trauma Premium (E420) will fail, as S350 is restricted to Section E procedures.
Billing Tips
- Ensure all intraprocedural imaging, catheterization, and post-procedure monitoring are bundled into the $1500.00 fee; do not unbundle these components.
- Apply the appropriate after-hours premium (E409-E413) if the procedure is non-elective and performed outside standard daytime hours to maximize the claim.
