S460 – Ureterolysis for periureteral fibrosis - unilateral
OHIP Urology Code — UROGENITAL AND URINARY SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Performs a unilateral ureterolysis for periureteral fibrosis. This surgical procedure involves dissecting and freeing the ureter from surrounding fibrous tissue to relieve an obstruction. A 25% premium is applicable when this procedure is performed laparoscopically using code E792. Note: When a physician submits a claim for performing any insured surgical procedure on the same patient on the same day as a claim for S460, the S460 service is included as a specific element of that other insured service and is not separately payable.
When to Use
- Use S460 when performing a standalone, unilateral surgical dissection of the ureter from retroperitoneal fibrosis or periureteral adhesions causing obstruction.
- Use S460 for ureterolysis when it is the primary and only surgical procedure performed during the operative session.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing S460 alongside any other surgical procedure on the same day will result in automatic rejection or non-payment, as it is considered an inclusive element of other major urological surgeries.
- Attempting to bill S460 for ureterolysis performed as part of a larger procedure like a ureteral reimplantation or nephrectomy is incorrect, as it is bundled into the primary procedure fee.
Billing Tips
- Always append the E792 laparoscopic premium to your claim if the procedure is performed via laparoscopy to capture the 25% fee increase.
