This service covers the surgical exploration and/or removal of parathyroid glands or a parathyroid tumour. This is a surgical procedure listed in the Endocrine Surgical Procedures section of the Schedule of Benefits. The fee for the surgeon is a set amount. The fee for the assistant is based on 6 base units plus time units. The fee for the anaesthetist is based on 10 base units plus time units. This procedure may be performed in conjunction with add-on procedures like parathyroid re-implantation (E880) or transcervical thymectomy (E885).
