X327Hyperthyroidism

OHIP Laboratory Code — RADIATION ONCOLOGY · Schedule of Benefits

Radioisotope therapy using non-sealed sources for the treatment of hyperthyroidism. As per , the fee for this service includes treatment planning, dosage calculation, preparation of materials, and all associated administration(s) that occur within any three-month period. Appropriate visit and procedural benefits may be claimed in addition.

When to Use

  • Use X327 specifically for the administration of radioiodine (I-131) for the definitive treatment of hyperthyroidism (e.g., Graves' disease or toxic multinodular goiter).
  • Select X327 when the patient requires a therapeutic dose of radioisotope, distinguishing it from diagnostic uptake scans which are billed under different diagnostic codes.

Common Pitfalls

  • Billing X327 multiple times within a 90-day window is a common rejection, as the fee is inclusive of all administrations occurring within that three-month period.
  • Failing to recognize that the fee is all-inclusive of treatment planning and dosage calculation; attempting to unbundle these components will result in claim rejection or audit recovery.

Billing Tips

  • Ensure that any separate office visits or procedural benefits provided on the same day are billed with the appropriate visit code, as X327 does not preclude claiming these additional services.
