Direct laryngoscopy for the purpose of removing lesion(s). This is an Independent Operative Procedure (IOP). As a 'Z' code, this procedure has specific billing rules regarding pre-operative assessments as outlined in the Surgical Preamble (). A commentary in the Schedule of Benefits notes that this procedure, unlike Z292, does not require manual review when rendered in association with gastroscopy, oesophagoscopy, oesophagoscopy-gastroscopy, duodenoscopy, and small bowel push enteroscopy services. The add-on code E643 may be claimed in addition to Z323 when a laser is used with microlaryngoscopy for benign disease.
