Z363
Z363 – Removal of thoracostomy tube (chest tube)
OHIP Psychiatric Code — RESPIRATORY SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
When to Use
- Use Z363 for the routine removal of a chest tube following the resolution of a pneumothorax or pleural effusion.
- Use Z363 when the chest tube was inserted during a previous encounter and the current visit is solely for the removal procedure.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill Z363 on the same day as Z341, as the Ministry considers the removal part of the global surgical package for the insertion.
- Avoid billing a concurrent office visit (e.g., A007) on the same day as Z363, as the procedural fee is intended to cover the assessment required for the removal.
Billing Tips
- If the removal occurs after hours or on weekends, ensure you append the appropriate premium (E409 or E410) to the Z363 claim to maximize the procedural value.
