Endoscopic excision of a single bladder tumour with a diameter greater than 2 cm. The procedure includes excision of the tumour base and adjacent muscles. Electrocoagulation is included if necessary. As per note on , no additional claim for cystoscopy (e.g., Z606, Z607) is payable when performed at the same time as this procedure.
When to Use
- Use Z633 for the endoscopic resection of a single bladder tumour measuring greater than 2 cm in diameter.
- Use this code when the procedure involves resection of the tumour base and adjacent muscle, which distinguishes it from simpler fulguration procedures.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing Z606 or Z607 in addition to Z633 is a common error; these codes are explicitly restricted when performed during the same operative session.
- Failure to document the tumour size as greater than 2 cm in the operative report creates a significant audit risk for upcoding from Z632.
- Billing Z633 for multiple tumours is incorrect; use Z634 for multiple tumours or Z632 for a single tumour 2 cm or less.
