When to Use
- Use Z913 when performing a formal repair of a small traumatic or iatrogenic tympanic membrane perforation using local anesthesia.
- Select Z913 when the procedure involves active debridement of the perforation edges to stimulate healing, distinguishing it from simple diagnostic examination.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing Z913 alongside G420 will result in an automatic rejection, as the Ministry considers ear syringing part of the preparation for the repair.
- Attempting to bill Z913 for routine ear wax removal or simple cleaning is an audit risk; ensure the clinical note explicitly describes the perforation repair process.
