When to Use
- Use C985C when you are called into the hospital specifically to perform an emergency anaesthetic on a Saturday, Sunday, or Holiday between 07:00h and 24:00h.
- Apply this code for the first patient of a special visit where you have traveled from outside the hospital to perform an urgent procedure that could not wait for a scheduled list.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing C985C for subsequent patients seen during the same hospital visit; this premium is strictly limited to the first patient encountered per special visit.
- Attempting to claim this premium for elective cases or routine rounds, which are explicitly excluded under the General Preamble special visit rules.
- Failing to meet the travel requirement defined in GP66, which mandates that the physician must travel from outside the hospital premises to the hospital to qualify.
Billing Tips
- Always pair C985C with the appropriate anaesthesia base fee and the E400C after-hours premium to maximize the claim for weekend or holiday emergency procedures.
- Ensure your documentation clearly indicates the time of the call and the time of arrival at the hospital to substantiate the special visit claim in the event of an audit.
