C999 – Special visit premium - Nights (00:00h - 07:00h), first patient seen

A special visit premium payable to surgical assistants or anaesthesiologists for the first patient seen during a non-elective special visit occurring at night (00:00h to 07:00h). The physician must travel from one location to another to provide the service.
When to Use
- Use C999C when you are called in from home to the hospital to provide anaesthesia for an emergency surgery starting between 00:00 and 07:00.
- Use C999B when you are a surgical assistant called in from home to the hospital to assist with an emergency procedure occurring within the 00:00 to 07:00 window.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing C999 for patients seen during routine rounds or scheduled elective cases, which are explicitly excluded by the Schedule of Benefits.
- Attempting to claim C999 for multiple patients during the same trip; only the first patient seen is eligible for the premium, while subsequent patients should be billed using the appropriate 'subsequent patient' premium codes.
- Submitting C999 alongside 'H' prefix emergency department codes, which causes an automatic rejection as these are mutually exclusive.
