G179
G179 – Repeat pacing, mapping and catheter ablation for additional distinct arrhythmia(s) without the use of an advanced mapping system
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Repeat pacing, mapping and catheter ablation for additional distinct arrhythmia(s) without the use of an advanced mapping system. This service is performed following a primary catheter ablation therapy (e.g., G178) in the same session, to address an additional, distinct arrhythmia.
When to Use
- Use G179 when you perform a secondary ablation for a distinct arrhythmia (e.g., an atrial flutter ablation) immediately following the primary ablation (G178) in the same operative session.
- Apply this code when the secondary procedure is performed using conventional mapping techniques, as G179 explicitly excludes the use of advanced mapping systems.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G179 in conjunction with Z423 will result in an automatic rejection, as these codes are mutually exclusive.
- Attempting to use G179 for the primary arrhythmia ablation instead of the appropriate primary code (e.g., G178) will lead to claim audit and recovery.
Billing Tips
- Ensure your operative report clearly delineates the two distinct arrhythmias treated to justify the secondary procedure claim alongside the primary G178.
