G195
G195 – Local anaesthetic hypersensitivity skin test
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Local anaesthetic hypersensitivity skin test.
When to Use
- Use G195 when performing a formal intradermal or prick test to confirm a suspected allergy to a specific local anesthetic agent prior to a procedure.
- Use this code when investigating a patient with a history of adverse reaction to lidocaine or similar agents to determine safe alternatives for future minor surgery.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill G195 in conjunction with G190 or G196 for the same patient encounter, as these are often considered overlapping diagnostic procedures.
- Avoid billing G195 if the test is performed as part of a general allergy consultation already covered by a consultation fee (A005/A007), as the procedure is considered bundled into the assessment.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the specific anesthetic agent tested is clearly noted in the chart, as this is required to justify the diagnostic necessity of the procedure during an audit.
