Acute, repeat haemodialysis, for the first 3 services rendered. Note: - As per (), team benefits are to include listed items. This does not include the preliminary investigation of the case. - Haemodialysis includes haemofiltration and haemoperfusion.
When to Use
- Use G323 for the first three sessions of acute, repeat haemodialysis for a patient requiring urgent renal replacement therapy.
- Apply this code when performing haemofiltration or haemoperfusion, as these are explicitly included in the definition of haemodialysis for billing purposes.
- Use G323 when the procedure is non-elective, distinguishing it from chronic maintenance dialysis which follows different billing protocols.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G323 beyond the first three services; subsequent acute sessions must be billed using G325.
- Attempting to bill for the preliminary investigation of the case, which is explicitly excluded from the G323 fee as per the Schedule of Benefits.
- Failing to apply the correct after-hours procedural premium (E409, E410, E412, or E413) when the procedure commences outside of standard daytime hours.
Billing Tips
- Ensure that G323 is only used for the initial three acute sessions; transition immediately to G325 for any sessions beyond the third to avoid claim rejections.
