G443 – Miscellaneous advanced testing - technical component
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
This code represents the technical component for various advanced diagnostic hearing tests, including but not limited to: - Recruitment tests - Tests of malingering - Central auditory tests - Stapedial reflex decay tests The professional component (interpretation) for these tests should be billed separately using G530. Payment for G443 is limited to a maximum of one per test performed.
When to Use
- Use G443 for the technical component of stapedial reflex decay testing when performed in conjunction with the professional interpretation billed under G530.
- Use this code for the technical data acquisition of central auditory processing tests or specific tests for malingering when these are not bundled into a comprehensive audiometric assessment (G440/G441).
- Use G443 when performing recruitment tests that require specific technical setup and data recording distinct from standard pure-tone or speech audiometry.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G443 for the technical component when the test is performed in a hospital setting without applying the mandatory 13.9% reduction (86.10% payment rule).
- Submitting G443 without a corresponding G530 professional component claim, which may trigger an audit regarding the necessity and interpretation of the technical data.
- Attempting to bill G443 for standard audiometric procedures already covered under G440 or G441, which is considered unbundling.
Billing Tips
- Ensure your office records clearly delineate the technical data acquisition process separate from the physician's clinical interpretation to satisfy the quality assurance documentation requirements.
- Always verify if the specific diagnostic test is already included in the global fee of a primary audiometric code (e.g., G440) before billing G443 to avoid rejection for duplicate service.
