J336 – Oxygen saturation - with single blind assessment of exercise on room air and with supplemental oxygen
OHIP Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Code — PULMONARY FUNCTION STUDIES · Schedule of Benefits
Oxygen saturation test with a single blind assessment of exercise on room air and with supplemental oxygen. This test has a professional component (P fee) and a technical component (H fee). Per the Schedule of Benefits, J336 is only eligible for payment for the evaluation of a patient to determine eligibility for funding under the Ontario Home Oxygen Program.
When to Use
- Use J336 when performing a formal exercise desaturation study specifically to qualify a patient for the Ontario Home Oxygen Program (OHOP).
- Select J336 over J332 or J334 when the clinical protocol requires both room air and supplemental oxygen exercise assessments to establish oxygen funding eligibility.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing J336 for routine oxygen monitoring or non-OHOP related pulmonary assessments will result in audit recovery.
- Submitting J336 on the same day as J332 or J334 will trigger an automatic rejection due to the explicit restriction in the Schedule of Benefits.
- Failing to document the specific exercise protocol and the comparison between room air and supplemental oxygen will lead to a failed audit of the professional component.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the claim includes both the professional (P) and technical (H) components to capture the full value of the service provided in your office.
