This code represents the application of PET for cardiac perfusion, and is billed as an add-on to J807 (Myocardial Perfusion Scintigraphy - resting, immediate post stress). It is limited to a maximum of one per examination.
When to Use
- Use J900 as an add-on to J807 when performing a PET myocardial perfusion study for a patient meeting the specific 'Routine PET Scan' indications defined by PET Scans Ontario.
- Select J900 when the clinical intent is myocardial perfusion assessment via PET rather than standard SPECT imaging, provided the indication is not classified as evidence-building.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing J900 without an accompanying J807 claim will result in an automatic rejection as it is strictly an add-on code.
- Submitting J900 for indications listed under the PET Registry or PET Access Program will lead to claim rejection, as these are restricted to 'Routine' indications only.
