S731 – One surgeon
OHIP Urology Code — FEMALE GENITAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
A surgical procedure for the creation of a vagina (vaginoplasty) performed by a single surgeon. This service is intended for a patient who has undergone a previous vaginoplasty which was unsuccessful. It includes all necessary steps for the procedure. The service is listed with 7 basic units for an assistant (<suffix>B</suffix>) and 7 basic units for an anaesthesiologist (<suffix>C</suffix>). If performed laparoscopically, a 25% premium (E862) may be added to the surgeon's fee.
When to Use
- Use S731 exclusively for a repeat vaginoplasty procedure where a previous attempt has failed.
- Use S731 when the surgical approach is performed by a single surgeon, distinguishing it from multi-surgeon codes like S732.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing S731 for a primary vaginoplasty procedure, which is an audit risk as this code is strictly reserved for revision of a failed previous surgery.
- Failing to document the history of the prior failed procedure, which is a mandatory requirement for the validity of this specific code.
Billing Tips
- Apply the E862 premium to the surgeon's fee if the procedure is performed laparoscopically to capture the 25% increase.
- Ensure the assistant and anaesthesiologist bill their respective units (7 units each) using the B and C suffixes alongside the S731 claim.
