S740 – Abdominal surgeon
OHIP Urology Code — FEMALE GENITAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Represents the service provided by the abdominal surgeon during a primary vaginal construction, performed as part of a two-surgeon team. This service is performed in conjunction with a vaginal surgeon, whose services are billed under S730. This procedure is part of the primary approach to vaginoplasty and may be performed laparoscopically with the addition of E862.
When to Use
- Use S740 exclusively as the abdominal surgeon's billing code during a primary vaginal construction performed as a two-surgeon team.
- Apply S740 when performing the abdominal component of a combined abdominal-vaginal sling procedure for stress incontinence.
- Use S740 in conjunction with S730, which must be billed by the vaginal surgeon for the same procedure.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing S740 without a corresponding S730 claim from the vaginal surgeon will result in a rejection due to the two-surgeon team requirement.
- Attempting to add E862 to S740 for procedures other than the specified combined abdominal-vaginal sling or primary vaginoplasty will trigger an audit.
- Incorrectly billing S740 for concurrent anti-prolapse or other anti-incontinence procedures, which are explicitly excluded from the E862 premium eligibility.
Billing Tips
- Ensure E862 is appended to S740 only when the procedure is performed laparoscopically and meets the specific criteria for a combined abdominal-vaginal sling.
- Verify that the surgical record clearly identifies the two-surgeon roles to support the use of S740 and S730 during post-payment review.
